ROUND 1Well, that was a good test. Saved my best for the back nine where I hit my best shot of the round, my tee on #13 which rewarded me with an easy birdie. Kept it solid until the 18th - WHAT A HOLE!!! It must be the most difficult one we've encountered so far on this tour - and I nearly birdied it, my chip grazing the cup. Pleased with the round and another challenging week in is store I think...

Randy you asked about - putting The first thing you need to understand is that this is a computer game not golf - in real life you look at the lay of the land - the slopes on the greens and the grain in the grass. Being as this is one dimensional you do not have that or those options - So we depend on some developer to put a grid on the green - which of course is never accurate so it become a chess match.
Then we have different speeds example 187 163 144 etc and these are never the same from course to course - think about it how could they, so really in this game its 90% luck and 10% lucky
so what I do is never actually try to make a putt - but I make sure that I get with in 1 to 2 feet short of the hole NOT past the hole - if you start going past the hole because its one dimensional you do not have a good read coming back - but if you stay short you obviously have the vision of the break already in your head.
To be honest the better you PC is and the greater your graphics the better you will play this game - there is no real skill like a real golf swing - its a matter of point and shoot here
When my vision was better and I did not shake I got pretty good at it, now not so much because it is point and shoot and with the tuff conditions there is no room for error - so good graphics and a steady hand you will shoot better.
You know and really if you shoot +37 or -37 what's the real difference - you got away from life for a 1/2 hour and had some laughs
I never enjoyed playing this game by myself and I guess that's why I have lost interest, we always played together on line and that was fun, but those days are gone - I am sure if I took 2 hours to play 18 holes and studied each shot I would do better - not anymore I fly through in 1/2 hr. tops - bogy birdie par none of it bothers me anymore.
So don't get frustrated just have fun at it and all of a sudden the scores will start dropping.

Thanks Ian,
The frustrating thing is I was never this bad at the game. I took a month or two off and my game never came back when I picked up the controller lol
I use a xBox One controller, I love it ! I've used a controller with all the 2K sim's. I'm just not a mouse puller Never could get the hang of it and I've put many hours to it.
The putts that go long are my achilles heal......... I'm still working on that!
We'll see and thanks for the feedback

We'll see and thanks for the feedback Ya frustration is a good word but why let it bring you down it's a game - as far as controllers or mouse it is pretty much all the same - I have done both in the past and find no difference - mouse is just easier because it's all connected. Like I was saying don't dwell on it see the shot play the shot - I play on a old sony laptop with a 14" screen and manage ok - But if you get a hi end video card and a large monitor you will be able to see the differences in the game - a lot of what I see is a general idea of where the hole is - that is why I play all putts short if I can - if I go to the other sites where I can zoom in and follow the grid I can shoot as low as those other guys but to me that's cheating - on the real golf course if you are 170 yards out your can't run up to the hole each time Always remember it's a computer game no one here will ever judge anyone by the scores - Bob puts a ton of time in selecting courses and we just play to have fun no more no less. We have had a ton of members come and go because they can't shoot -13 all the time IMO good riddance.

I'd love to play 'live' golf again Ian!! A good time for me would be starting around 11.30pm. I usually stay up until around 2am (one of the advantages of being fully retired LOL) so wouldn't that be late afternoon/early evening for you guys?? Let me know if we can get something going!!

ROUND 2My putting let me down in this round, hardly sunk a thing. Disappointing because the pins weren't really that challenging.

Round 2
Nice little come back on the back side. Nice 38 footer on 15! Hit the ball well and played the run off in the fairway a little better this round. Was hitting almost all fairways to have them roll onto the rough

ROUND 3My game wasn't quite 'on' again today but a nice run at the end of the front nine enabled me to draw level with Ian to set up a cracking final round!! Anything can happen now!! And great to see that Randy's Round 2 was a huge improvement on previous rounds.

ROUND 4A 3-putt on the opening hole wasn't the ideal start but it served to make me more focused and at halfway I was only 1 stroke behind Ian. My putting wasn't too bad so I was confident I would at least draw level with the old man!! But my putter failed me on the back, apart from the 17th where I had to make an 11-footer to save par after an over-aggressive birdie putt. With the wind behind me on #18 I fancied my chances of drawing level but my misjudged wedge left me with a longer putt than intended - and I could only par the hole which left Ian 1 shot ahead of me!
In the real event Ian would have finished 4th, 3 strokes adrift of Ernie Els, and I would have come 5th - so very creditable performances. And a great blast this week, so well played Ian!!!
