ROUND 1The prospect of playing a rain-sodden Oak Hill, making it even longer than normal, didn't exactly fill me with confidence. Especially after I bogeyed the 1st hole. I then had to perform some minor miracles to avoid dropping further shots, the best save coming on the 6th when I holed my bunker shot (and saved it so you could see it yourselves lol). A birdie on #13 clawed me back to level par, where I eventually finished, but 3 birdie putts agonisingly failed to find the target so the round could have been even better. Happy with the round and a very enjoyable battle!!

I used to like Oak Hill but when the monsoons hit - I now hate it (lol) - this golf course is a great test for anyone - one of the Donald Ross's better designs built in 1926 and I even had the privilege of actually playing it in 1980 ish don't remember the actual year - the guys I played it with have since passed on. The scores don't really matter this week just the layout of this course is a master piece - I rate it up there with Augusta - when you play it pay attention to bunker locations and the fact it plays right to left and left to right - just think of the imagination of Donald Ross - It was also the site of the 2023 PGA To see it rain soaked and not being able to reach par 4's is sad but in a way this may have been what they faced in the mid 1900's - in 2023 the winning score was -9 by one of the PGA biggest hitters Koepka - this is how golf should be not the -23 Chit we see on other sites. Only 11 players broke par in 2023 Rd 1 - extremely happy seeing the conditions

Yes Ian, I think we can both be proud of our first round efforts and scores - it sure was hard work out there!!!
Rumour is the course may dry out as the week progresses as the weather is expected to gradually improve!
Did you watch my bunker shot on #6? It was a thing of beauty LOL

Still replacing my programs but, had to test out my play.........Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not bad almost kept it under double digits LOL
Couldn't hit the fairways!!!!!!!!! Dam It !!!!!!!!!!!!

ROUND 2What a fight that was!! Some very tough pins added to the already difficult task! I had a very shaky front nine and didn't think I'd make it back to par, even though I holed my bunker shot on #7 - but my putting improved greatly on the back, culminating in a bird on #18 after sinking a double-breaking, downhill 22-footer - very satisfying!! And Ian is still hanging in there so this promises to be a fantastic battle in the last 2 rounds!!

ROUND 3Solid play on the front saw me reach the turn a happy man after one bird and no dropped shots. More controlled play earned me more birdies on #12 and #13, but loose play on #16 saw one shot go. Made up for it on #17 with a chip-in bird, but messed up #18 with a bad drive and dropped another stroke. But more than content with a -2 score and with Ian having problems in this round there is less pressure in the finishing 18 holes...

ROUND 4My game just wasn't there on the front, and it seemed to me that the wind was even stronger than usual. Stopped the rot with a couple of birds after the turn, and although I bogeyed two holes near the end I'd done enough. A great week on a great course - it doesn't get much harder than this!!

In the actual tourney I would have finished tied 8th.
Curtis Strange won with 278 strokes, 4 shots ahead of me.
Not too shabby I suppose...
