As I will be flying to Italy next Sunday for a week's holiday, and I will NOT be taking my laptop, the result for this event will be delayed for a week.
The event after that, DICK'S SPORTING GOODS OPEN, will take place as normal, but I will not be taking part...
Started well, then a bad approach to #7 cost a shot, another one went on the dangerous 8th but it could have been worse, and a poor tee on #9 saw another shot go. Calmed things down on the back, then grabbed very good birdies on #15, #16, and #18 to complete a satisfactory opening round. Even with 3 bogeys I actually enjoyed it lol...
Round 1 - back at it! was a bit nervous not playing for over a week, I did notice my tempo being off a few times but nothing to cause errant shanks. started off with a bogey but quickly settled in, got lucky on #8 with a 75yd hole out with karma immediately being returned on the following hole LOL. back 9 was pretty smooth sailing and got into a nice groove. definitely a nice course with plenty of opportunities to score but also demands respect especially if things dry up and/or the wind decides to whip across the barren quarry. plenty of elevation changes to challenge your distance control. very happy to be back on the course and able to post a nice opening score.
Couldn't buy a birdie and, after messing up the 5th, a combination of Very Fasts and a Very Slow conspired to kneecap my round. I hung in there, rallied with a couple of unexpected birdies, and then nearly double-eagled the 18th when my second rolled back on to the green to leave a 4-footer for eagle, which I duly sank. Net level par - that'll do for me after those first eleven holes, and I'm still in it...
Chipped in on #1 for a miraculous par after pulling my tee into the water. My approaches were wayward today so I needed my chipping to be good, and it didn't let me down - quite the contrary. The bogey on #10 was disappointing, coming after a poor bunker shot, and the saving grace was that I played the par 5's well. Not unhappy with the round, but not overjoyed either...
Round 2 & 3 - forgot to screenshot my 2nd round card due to a massive melt down that has now lasted 18 rounds between round 2 & 3. I absolutely cannot read or judge speed on my putts, mainly with left/right slopes.. I feel like greens that the grid literally crawls left/right at a snails pace actually break more than the ones that have a faster pace.. maybe the head greens keeper needs to get out and roll these greens lol. very disappointing round 2-3 for me but I'll bounce back, the last 4 holes seemed to get my confidence back and on the right track!
Some tricky pins caught me out a couple of times, and although I drove very well I didn't play the par 5's smart enough. Especially that 8th hole which caught me out again and could be very costly. My game this week has been pleasing, I've managed the course better than I usually do and enjoyed the challenge. This will be my last round for over a week, which is a shame. Oh well, never mind, Venice here we come lol...
