Round 1

It was a tough day for everyone out there today, so much so that only two players managed to break par!! A couple of guests fought a losing battle - Jared Kingsley (76) and Randy Grant (75) are not completely out of the running, but their winning chances are just a little more distant. Norm Ricker, Les Souter, Hans Kunok and Bob Fletcher all posted solid enough 72's to finish the day only one stroke behind the opening round leaders. And they are Japanese pro Massy Kuramoto and our very own Ian McKinley, who just happens to love French Lick. So that's one hard round out of the way, just another three to go, and it's still wide open...

Round 2

Virtually no wind today but heavy overnight rain will make the course seem even longer. On the plus side the greens will be very receptive but those putts will have to be firmly struck. A 72 meant Randy Grant made hardly any headway, and he was overtaken by Jared Kingsley who played well for his 70, carding a bogey free back nine. Now level with Jared is Bob Fletcher who didn't help himself by dropping four strokes on three consecutive front nine holes on his way to a disappointing 74. Tied for 10th spot are Ian McKinley (74) and Norm Ricker (73) and they are still in this contest. The outstanding round of the day came from Les Souter, whose 'clean' 66 took him to the top spot, two shots clear of Tom Lehman. Can he stay there to make it two in a row...?!

Round 3

Not much of a breeze today, but the greens have become a little bare and consequently they will be faster. Coming unstuck were Randy Grant (78) and Hans Kunok (80), a shame for the latter after opening rounds of 72 and 71. Bob Fletcher had a nightmare front, but he rallied on the back to finish with his second 74 of the week. Ian McKinley also posted his second 74 of the event, and he is now level with Jared Kingsley who shot a not too untidy 73. It was great to see Charlie Roberts returning to the tour after a prolonged absence due to ill health, and it was obvious that he'd lost none of his ability. Opening rounds of 67 (including a super ACE on #13) and 70 had him leading at halfway, but a disastrous 77 today pegged him right back. Les Souter took full advantage and, although far from a perfect round, his 71 places him two strokes clear at the top of the leaderboard going into the final day. The question is can he stay there?!

Final Round

No wind and rock-hard, ultra-quick greens were the plus and minus points for the climax to this event. Bob Fletcher (79), Jared Kingsley (79), Hans Kunok (78) and Randy Grant (76) were last seen in a huddle leafing through a telephone directory trying to find the 'Psychiatrist' section after their traumatising putting ordeals today. Ian McKinley ended the tourney as he had started it, with a solid 71 but, unfortunately, he was just one stroke away from earning some much needed Charles Schwab Cup points. Leading going into today's round, Les Souter also found the greens hard to handle and he was visibly disappointed when he walked off the 18th green with a 75 - a score that did not clinch another win for him. The halfway mark leader, Charlie Roberts, had been bitten badly by the course in Round 3, but he bounced back with a fighting 70 today. However, that too was not a winning score, but was good enough to claim a share of second place with Les. The eventual victor was Colin Montgomerie who had not posted the best score in any round - he had merely played consistent, solid golf to end the week four strokes clear.
