Round 2 - A stronger breeze was blowing for this round, there were tougher pins and rain rendered the greens quite slow. Bob Fletcher improved on his opening day showing by carding a 73, and putting was his main bugbear today. Ian McKinley's round of 68 included only one bogey and he is well positioned for a weekend charge, but the round of the day came from Les Souter. His magnificent 64 was easily the best effort of the round, contained no dropped shots, and gives Les a 2-stroke lead at halfway. On this form who will be able to deny him the victory?!

Round 3 - This was an ideal day for shooting low; a light breeze, straightforward pins, and perfect greens. Even so, Bob Fletcher could only put together a 72 to remain at the foot of the leaderboard, while overnight leader Les Souter imploded by carding a 74, his putting the main culprit. Late starter Mel Tyke posted rounds of 67 and 67 before recording a 68 today, but even that level of scoring left him a lot to do to threaten the two players ahead of him in the final round. Another late starter, Hans Kunok, playing his first event of this season, followed rounds of 67 and 66 with a sizzling 63, but even those scores weren't enough to sieze the lead. Ian McKinley produced an absolutely stellar round of 58 which included two eagles, and which placed him one stroke ahead of Hans with just one round to complete. The victory will almost certainly go to one of these two - but which one...?

Looking good Bob, that perhaps 3 of us will beat the “pros” Ian and Hans ripping up the course well clear of myself, great play.

Yes Mel, I obviously didn't make the conditions difficult enough!!!
That's the trickiest thing about this format - getting the conditions right so that the 'human' scores are similar to the pro scores in a tourney. Make them too easy and a few of us will hammer the pro's - make them too difficult and the reverse happens!!

Bob im not understanding how this works, you say in the How it works section that "The 'old pros' Round 4 scores will be selected at random using a program that will apply a round score to each old pro from a range of the lowest to highest scores from Round 3." Yet i see 4 x 63, when only one was scored in round 3, a 64 which no one shot and 2 x 65s which no one shot in round 3 either, how is it calculated especially when the players shooting them scores never looked like doing it all thru the event?

The lowest real pro score in Round 3 was a 63 by Jose Coceres, so 63 was at the low end of the range of scores used for Round 4. The top end of the range of scores should have been 77, as that was Peter Jacobsen's score in Round 3, the highest by a pro - but I missed it and used 76 instead, not a big deal.
So for Round 4 the random number program could select any score from 63 to 76 for the pro golfers, which it did. It just so happened that it selected 4 x 63 rounds, purely because it was a random selection. The program doesn't use the SAME scores that were shot in Round 3 - it just selects from the range of scores.
As for your last point, look at Jay Haas. In reality he actually shot 3 x 69 rounds, but his random score in Round 4 was a 63. He may have been expected to score around 69 in Round 4 if he'd actually played Round 4 - but it's also possible that he may have had a really good day and shot a 63!!
Hope this helps! LOL

Oh, I had thought the pro scores were the “actual” from the history of the competition ? Members generally did pretty well this time ( unlike the previous comp) Tricky to get it just right for us to have a chance of beating the “pros” as well as our own comp. Tough job getting it fair for all. Thanks for the work done, Mel

Hi Mel - the problem is that most Champions Tour events are only 3-round tourneys. We play 4 rounds so I had to be inventive about the pros' Round 4 scores, but I do use their actual scores for the first 3 rounds!!
Hope you continue to enjoy the format and well done for collecting Charles Schwab Cup points in the first 2 tourneys!

Of course, the “old f**ts, only play 3 rounds……unlike us “tough old boots” who play all 4🫣🤣👍 Thanks for the update Mel
