Round 1 - The 2015 Champions Tour kicked off at Kaiuma Bay, a spectacular course with danger lurking everywhere. The weather was kind with only a stiff breeze to handle, while the greens were quick but not too quick. Bob Fletcher played the first 10 holes solidly enough, but then his round began to nosedive, and he eventually recorded a disappointing 76, not what he'd had in mind. Les Souter's putting gave him all kinds of problems, but he rallied on the back nine to post an opening 74. Ian McKinley's 70 included just the one bogey, and he expressed his joy to be back on the course playing tour golf again. The best guest round was produced by newcomer Mel Tyke whose impressive 68 left him just 2 strokes adrift of the first round leader, Rocco Mediate.

Round 2 - With hardly a breath of wind and slightly slower greens this promised to be a day for low scoring. Bob Fletcher improved on his opening round by carding a level par 72, still not what was required but at least heading in the right direction. Ian McKinley enjoyed a great front nine but then lost focus on the back to repeat his first round score of 70 to leave him in mid-leaderboard. Les Souter boosted himself into contention by shooting an awesome 63, but one of those rounds where everything dropped was spoiled by a lapse in concentration on #11 that cost him a bogey. Rookie Mel Tyke impressed on the opening day and he again played very well for a great 65, lifting him into a share of the lead at halfway. It's going to be a fascinating weekend...

Round 3 - Could be a difficult round today due to the harder conditions and high wind. Les Souter (77), Bob Fletcher (75), and Ian McKinley (73) all found it tough going out there, but not as tough as Ben Crenshaw did as he posted his third 85 of the event!! Overnight joint leader Mel Tyke managed a creditable 68 but now finds himself in third spot, two strokes behind outright leader Miguel Angel Jimenez and one stroke behind Mark O'Meara. It's going to be a nail-biting finish...

Round 4 - The wind reduced to a breeze and the greens were quick, so attacking play was quite possible. Bob Fletcher ended a forgetable week with a 73 but avoided last place thanks to Ben Crenshaw. Ian McKinley played consistently all through the tourney without really threatening to finish well, and his 71 was another round where he missed several opportunities to improve his score. Les Souter's closing 69 was a solid round, but although he must be regretting his first and third round performances, he still had the small consolation of posting the best score of the week in Round 2. Mel Tyke was in with a chance today, but he couldn't quite find the form that had placed him in contention. A 70 was only enough to earn 7th spot, still very respectable, but leaving him a full 6 strokes behind the eventual winner, Mark O'Meara. However, Mel did leave Hawaii with 64 Charles Schwab Cup points in the bank. Next stop Florida...

Great fun Bob, and well done for the work you do. I use to run a Pro Board when a group of used to play WGT and we set up a clubhouse as you have done. We set up handicaps based on scores and related to real golf handicap calculations. We set up Ryder Cup and other team comps also as we had multinational members. It was good fun, but took too much time to keep it running, especially when members messed up the handicaps when using Google Forms to enter scores etc. We also used Skype to chat during matches, but another reason for the club’s demise, as it could cause irritation for some members, and some falling out did occur. I much prefer the message box after a game. Maybe the team, or pairs games, 4 ball better ball or foursomes could be fun? PS How do you modify handicaps ( I saw them listed …3 for many?) but not sure how you adjust. I hope to play regularly but not sure if every week, as I have some health and family issues that take priority. Thanks and best wishes, Mel

Hi Mel, really pleased you enjoyed the tourney - and well played, even if you did some chipping on the greens!! IT'S BANNED BY THE WAY!! ROFL
Ian (Altaedm) is from Canada and also used to play WGT, and he is much more knowledgable about golf than I am - or ever will be!! Ian does all the artwork on this forum and we discuss rules, formats and everything really.
It was decided that for the first 2 events, the Mitsubishi and the Allianz, every player would be given a +3 handicap. After those 2 events Ian will calculate accurate handicaps for everyone and these will be applied from Event 3. After that the handicaps are reviewed after each event. There is a section somewhere on this forum explaining how Ian calculates the handicaps - if you can find it take a look!! It has worked very well in the past with the 2 tours we've completed so far.
Good luck this week (if you can play)!!
Best wishes Bob
P.S. Where are you in the UK? I am in sunny Torquay!

Mel: - Here is a short explanation - The scores are pulled from the end of tournament leader board by me and, I have built a spread sheet with macros to calculate handicap for next event. I then post the leaderboard as well as the new handicap into the forums. Bob - has developed the season and does all the conditions and decides on the courses, as well as a ton of other work leaderboards all the calculations. Bob and me as well as Les, have played pretty much all of the online golf games over way too many years. We started to find the scores a little bit stupid compared to real golf - both Les and Me have been scratch golfers in real life as some point, and we found the game scores to be unrealistic and it was a video game vs real golf, and then Bob had the great idea of playing against the pros - to bring reality in, we tried this at Perfect Golf but we were shunned, then we started TGC2019 and Bob's idea came to fruition. We worked many many, calculations for a handicap system and Bob changed the conditions to make it more challenging and we have what we have today - most gummers will not play our events because they are hung-up on low scores, whereas we play against the greats of the real game. Bob dedicates a ton of time to this, and we will not have it ruined by cheaters or whinners we simply ask them to leave. Please have fun enjoy what we supply and post as often as you like, we like score cards posted and comments about the rounds made - keeps it interesting.

Many thanks chaps for explaining both your game rules (sorry I didn’t know you couldn’t chip on greens😱) I do now🤔🫣🤣 Also the handicap system. I used to run a group of friends in WGT and we applied a handicap system based on real golf. It worked well to adjust scores in comps. As I put in my response to Bob, it became a chore running the club (pro board also) comps and handicap system which relied on members logging their scores on Google forms. If they did it correct everything worked well, but some were a pain🤬and others “fell out” during Skype calls…..🤯 Well done Mel PS I live in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and originally from Yorkshire…….hence my online name Meltyke, which I use in most online websites etc.

Hi Ian, we had a couple of Canadian members in the WGT club, and several from the US as well as Australia and around half from the UK. It made for some challenges when playing pairs matches with time differences. My real name is Martin, but much easier to stick to Mel, which has always been my online name.

Hi Mel pleased you have joined us. Ian and i met on WGT about 15 years ago at which time they had 2 courses Kiawah and Bethpage, playing on a site called WGTLS where we had many events, including Ryder Cups etc and Guilds was the big thing then, we played them games on Skype it was great talking with players from around the Globe, great fun back then, I still have my account there and now and again go on and have a knock but like Ian said scores became ridiculous and the screams of cheater were posted every day in the forums, it actually got nasty sometimes. We then did Perfect Golf where we met Bob and we tried to start a tour there but to cut a long story short it was hijacked and we were not happy so moved onto the Golf Club. We used to play multiplayer games here but that seems to have fizzled out for now. Anyhow welcome hope you enjoy the challenge set here. Cheers PS as you can probably guess by my handle im a Geordie currently living in Durham area.
