Round 1 - In the final event of the season a good opening score beckoned as there was absolutely no wind at all and the fast greens were in perfect condition. Unfortunately Ian McKinley failed to take advantage and he could only post a woeful 79. Les Souter's fine 67 saw him right up there at the close of play, one stroke behind Bob Fletcher who fired an inspired 66 to end the day tied second with Padraig Harrington. This pair trail the early leader, Nick Price, by three shots after the South African-born player blazed around the course in just 63 strokes!!
