Round 1 - Conditions were favourable for this opening day, but the East Lake course is never easy. Our three intrepid guests would all be disappointed with their starts - Bob Fletcher (76), last week's tournament winner Les Souter (74) and Ian McKinley (73) all struggled and have left themselves a mountain to climb to achieve a decent finish. Even Tiger Woods didn't have things all his own way, a 68 left him four strokes behind the leader, Ernie Els, but there is a lot of golf still to play...

Round 2 - Strong wind, some tricky pins, and wet, sluggish greens were the order of the day for this round. Ian McKinley had to fight hard for his 71, an improvement on his Round 1 score, and he actually managed to register an eagle on the 6th hole, something of a rarity on this course. Les Souter struggled with his putter on his way to a level par 70, also an improvement, but he stated that he is not enjoying the course at all. Bob Fletcher consigned his poor opening round to just a distant memory and was timing the ball well on his way to a creditable 69, leaving him just one stroke adrift of both Ian and Les. Tiger Woods crept closer to the top of the leaderboard by firing a 66, and he now trails new leader David Duval by only one shot.

Round 3 - Dry, breezy conditions and accessible pins meant fast greens and scoring opportunities. Unfortunately for Les Souter, as well as taking a dislike to the course, his game appears to be going through a serious crisis, and his 79 saw him drop to the bottom of the leaderboard. Ian McKinley produced a 70, his best round of the week so far, while Bob Fletcher somehow controlled his timing issues to card a praiseworthy 67 which included a run of four birdies at the start of the back nine. Tiger Woods' second 66 of the tourney saw him become joint leader with Vijay Singh, with Phil Mickelson just one shot behind them. It's looking like a three-horse race now...

Round 4 - No wind at all but bone-hard, lightning fast greens provided an interesting mix for the final round. Bob Fletcher had a torrid time, carding a terrible 86, but he knew it was going to be tough from the very first tee when he hooked his ball out of bounds. Les Souter did a little better, coming in with a 78, but that did little to improve his disenchantment with the course or his game. Ian McKinley's 76 was his worst round of the event, and all three guests will want to forget this tourney in a hurry. Overnight co-leader Tiger Woods had looked favourite, but Phil Mickelson's 66, the best round of the day, meant Tiger had to settle for second spot. Now we travel to Spain for the last event of a very long season, and I for one am looking forward to a short break from tour play...
