Round 1 - The mild weather provided the opportunity to get off to a good start, and all the guest players took advantage. Ian McKinley kept a 'clean' card on his way to a solid 68, a score matched by Les Souter who at last seemed to find some decent form. Randy Grant made too many mistakes for his liking but, to his credit, still managed to shoot a 67, leaving him tied 3rd at the end of the day with pre-tourney favourite Tiger Woods and PGA pro Steve Flesch. Ernie Els looked good during his round of 66 but, surprisingly, the opening day leader was Bob Fletcher who registered no less than ten birdies before finishing with a stunning 64!!

Round 2 - High wind had dried out the greens which were now running very fast. Overnight leader Bob Fletcher couldn't handle the green speed and could only post a 77, and he was visibly disappointed after his stellar opening round. Randy Grant also found the conditions difficult but managed a not to bad 73. Ian McKinley, who enjoys putting on very quick greens, came in with a 69 to be positioned four strokes off the pace. The best guest performance came from Les Souter, who played well to repeat his first round 68, and Les is only three behind the new leader. And that is Tiger Woods whose very competent 66 was the equal best score of the day.

Bob Fletcher had a frustrating time with the putter again, but ended the round superbly by birdying the last three holes for a 71. Ian McKinley struggled and, uncharacteristically, carded two double-bogeys on his way to a depressing 73. Randy Grant just about stayed in the mix by shooting his second 67 of the week, but making up the seven-shot deficit between himself and the leader is a big ask. Les Souter maintained his good form and fired the equal-best score of the day, a fine 66, a score that places him just two strokes behind Tiger Woods who registered a 67 today. It looks very much like a battle between these two now, and the final round could be very dramatic...

Round 4 - This promised to be the toughest round of the tournament, with high winds, ultra fast greens, and difficult pins all on the menu. Ian McKinley completed a miserable week with a surrendering 82 - enough said. Bob Fletcher wasn't unhappy with his level par 72, but that might change if he gets a bill from the hotel on the Road Hole for replacing broken roof tiles caused by his pushed drive. Starting the day only two strokes off the lead, Les Souter began his round full of hope, but it wasn't to be and his eventual 73, his worst of the tourney, was only enough to earn third place. Les was leapfrogged by Randy Grant who finished in style with the best round of the day, a very good 66. How Randy must be regretting his second round performance! With a winning margin of four shots it was TIGER WOODS who notched up yet another Major title, his almost effortless closing 69 clinching victory.
