Round 1 - Wet conditions meant the greens would be relatively slow and receptive for this opening round, and with not much wind good scores were possible. Not for Charlie Roberts, however, making his first appearance since The International at Castle Pines Charlie struggled today and an 80 was all he could muster. Les Souter wouldn't have been pleased with his relatively poor 73, while Ian McKinley played well for his 69. That score was matched by newcomer Brian McClane, making his tour debut, while last week's runner-up in the WGC-NEC Invitational at Firestone, Bob Fletcher, fired a very satisfactory 68. Bob's round was marred by only one bogey, and that came on the treacherous 15th when his drive found the fairway-splitting creek. Randy Grant registered a fine 66 in spite of collecting three bogeys, and he lies just one stroke behind the pack of four leaders.
