Round 1 - Today's conditions looked to be a good opportunity for players to score well and start the week with promise. A light breeze and very fast greens shouldn't have caused too many problems, but only one guest ended the day with any credit. Ian McKinley enjoyed the course, and his clean round, as he posted a fine 66 to trail the early leader by only three strokes. Unfortunately Bob Fletcher (73), Les Souter (75) and Charlie Roberts (81) all looked a little rusty and out of sorts, but the week is young...
Round 2 - The wind increased in intensity during the night so the players faced a stiff breeze today. It also brought rain with it, so the greens were a lot slower, which should have helped with the tough pins. Three guests remain at the base of the leaderboard and slipped further behind the field. Les Souter and Charlie Roberts both carded a 71 to improve on their opening rounds, but they will have to find a much bigger improvement over the weekend to attain a decent finish. The same went for Bob Fletcher even though he managed a 70, also better than his Round 1 score. Ian McKinley's 70 saw him slide down the leaderboard and now looks unlikely to be challenging for the title, but there's still a lot of golf to be played...
Round 3 - Less wind and faster greens provided the chance to shoot a good score today. Charlie Roberts had a very good back nine to thank for his 68, but he is still languishing at the foot of the leaderboard. Bob Fletcher enjoyed his bogey-free 65, a score which could easily have been lower if he hadn't missed a couple of makeable putts late in his round, but he finished well by chipping in for par on the 18th. Bob's score saw him haul himself up to tied 51st and he will be hoping to maintain today's excellent form. Ian McKinley also fired an impressive 65, his best effort of the event so far, and a score that elevated him into a share of 8th spot. A win still appears unlikely, however, as Ian is still six strokes adrift of the new leader, tour pro Kirk Triplett, who burned up the course in just 62 strokes!!
Round 4 - The wind was back up again for the final day, the greens were playing a little slower, and most of the pins were very accessible, so good scoring was possible. Les Souter looked completely out of sorts on his way to his second 74 of the tourney and, consequently, last place. Charlie Roberts' 67 was his best round of the event and would have been bogey-free but for a dropped shot on the very last hole. Although Bob Fletcher finished in the bottom half of the leaderboard after carding a 69 today, he was surprisingly upbeat about his game in general. Easily the top guest this week was Ian McKinley, who managed to halve the deficit between himself and the leader by shooting a creditable 67 to earn a share of 5th spot, just three strokes behind the winner. That was Michael Clark II who prevailed in a play-off by defeating Kirk Triplett on the 4th extra hole!!
