Round 1 - A very breezy start to the week and quick greens greeted the players today. The greens, although a little problematic, seemed quite fair, but our guests lost the battle on the putting surfaces I think. Ian McKinley is still searching for that early-season form but it continues to evade him, as his opening 75 demonstrated. Bob Fletcher and Les Souter did marginally better, carding a brace of 73's, but a big improvement is required if any of the guests want to feature higher up the leaderboard...
Round 2 - The wind dropped a little but some devilish pins and greens like glass provided another stern test today. Bob Fletcher and Ian McKinley produced a pair of 75's, Ian's second 75 of the week. Les Souter fared better with a fighting 71, but all three guests are firmly entrenched at the foot of the leaderboard, and now probably have one eye on next week's British Open Championship...
Round 3 - The strong breeze was back making the greens a bit quicker for today's play. Charlie Roberts added a 75 to his two previous rounds of 72, confirming the high difficulty of Blackwolf Run in unfavourable conditions. Ian McKinley's 74 was his best round of the event so far, while Bob Fletcher played reasonably well for his 71, which was his best effort of the week. Meanwhile, at the business end of the leaderboard, tour pro Loren Roberts will carry a 2-stroke advantage into the final round after shooting a magnificent 63 today.
Round 4 - Gusting winds and rain made for a tough day's golf, but at least the greens were a little slower. Bob Fletcher lost his mojo completely and signed off with a disastrous 80, and Charlie Roberts didn't do much better when he came in with a 78. Ian McKinley carded a 72, his best round of the week, but that still wasn't enough to stop Les Souter from being the best-performing guest of the event as he finished off with a 74. Loren Roberts completed a convincing 8-stroke win courtesy of a closing 66. None of the guests will be unhappy to be leaving Blackwolf Run behind as they now head off to Scotland for the Open Championship at St Andrews...
