Round 1 - It was pretty windy out there for the opening round, and the greens were quick. Bob Fletcher was left scratching his head after carding a 75. Whilst he drove the ball well, his approaches were inaccurate and finding sand instead of putting surfaces, and his bunker play was, sadly, not the best. Unfortunately, Ian McKinley's health problems are beginning to badly affect his general play, but he still managed a fighting 73. This course is far from easy, and a guest win looks extremely unlikely so far...
Round 2 - Not much of a breeze for today's play, but a combination of tricky pins and very fast greens would cause varying degrees of heartache for plenty of players. Those included both Bob Fletcher and Ian McKinley who carded a pair of instantly forgetable 75's. Consequently, this duo occupy the bottom two positions on the leaderboard, and the end of the tournament probably can't come quickly enough...
Round 3 - The players arrived at the course to find strong, gusty winds raking across the landscape, so a tough time looked to be in store. The greens were a little slower though, which would help slightly. Bob Fletcher moved off the bottom of the leaderboard by carding a 73, curiously his best round so far this week, leapfrogging Ian McKinley who didn't have the best of times on his way to a 77, two strokes behind Bob. Small consolation was that even Tiger Woods was having a hard time, currently tied 23rd and six strokes off the pace, but I suppose we all have 'off' days, or even weeks...
Round 4 - A strong breeze and fast greens were on the menu for today's play. Bob Fletcher's 72, his best round of the event, and including a finishing streak of 12 pars, was good enough to finish above Ian McKinley. Ian could only muster a 74, and one can only hope that his health problems do not affect his performance too much when The Open Championship begins next week. Even Tiger Woods couldn't get the better of Dubsdread, finishing in a tie for 23rd place, and he will be hoping for greatly improved form for St Andrews. The eventual winner was Robert Allenby, seeing off the challenge of Nick Price on the first play-off hole. Let's hope the guests up their game at Blackwolf Run this week...
