Round 1 - Firstly, I apologise for the pin on #10. Hadn't played this course for a long time and didn't realise it was a duffer. Hopefully there won't be any more. Early bogeys were a result of over-aggressive putting, then I settled down, only to get a quad on that 10th hole. Managed to get all four shots back but then, on #17, I hit the only drive of the round that didn't draw - with water on the right. Disappointing, and I missed a load of putts which was frustrating. Hopefully I will putt better next round...

Round 2 - Perfect start on #1 after driving into the heavy rough, playing a good recovery approach and sinking the putt. Had to improvise to save par on #2, then drained a 45-footer on #3 for another bird. Putting cost me a dropped shot on #4, but got it back on #6. Hit a purple patch in the middle of the back nine, the best bird coming on #15 after a Very Fast swing from the tee very nearly found water, but not quite. My flop approach was short, but somehow I sank the resulting 19-foot, left-to-right downhiller. An over-aggresive putt saw a shot go on #16, but am happy with the 66...

Nothing to write home about in R1 or R2. I was rusty, just back from traveling, and I never play a practice round; just went to the first tee. I could not remember how to putt as evidenced by my first two holes in R1. Was fortunate to negotiate Hole #10 with just a bogey, after the first two putts rolled back to my feet. R3 a little better. At least a clean scorecard.

R4. I played well - struck the ball solidly and putted great. Missed a short putt on 11 because of the ghost break (the ball breaks opposite from the arrow indicators there). Hit almost the perfect fairway wood approach on 13 but needed a couple of extra clicks to the right. The ball was headed right at the flag and hit the fairway/fringe area at the front of the green, but the fairway was sloped toward the water and the ball bounced left into the water (one of my pet peeves with course designers - the fairway has to be mowed by the cyber mowers, so don't create unrealistic, unmowable slopes that penalize good shots ). Hit a decent recovery shot but not close enough to make the putt. Got lucky on the hole where the pin is sitting in the middle of yellow and red slope; rammed a thirty-footer in for birdie there. All in all I played about as well as I can. On to next week.

Round 4 with Ian and Charlie, going steady but yet again denied another event by a dodgy pin on hole 10, both in round 1 and 4 it was see how many it takes to hole a long putt up 2 feet, both Ian and myself took 7s after been on the green for 2 , Charlie got lucky he sank his first time from 40 feet up the hill. Onwards.

Round 3 - Played this one completely cold and it showed on the first three holes. But then I started hitting the ball sweetly and my putter gradually warmed up. Shame about the bogey on #16, the result of an overhit chip. Pleased with the score and the way I played generally...

Round 4 - Without doubt one of my most controlled and best rounds to date, really satisfying. The front was solid but I was fearful of the 'Pin of Death' on the 10th - until I copied Charlie by draining my 2-feet uphill 31-footer for an unexpected birdie. A rare bogey-free round in these conditions is incredibly pleasing - let's hope I can produce rounds like this more often...
