ROUND 1 At last a clean card let myself down on 2 par 5s failing to get up and down, and only one shooter putt from 5 feet which cost me a chirper, but happy with round.  |

Round 1 - After playing 18 holes at Viscose Vale for a warm-up I was hitting the ball ok. What happens? On the 1st hole I get a slow at the top to send my drive soaring to the right and a bogey on the card for a wonderful start. Sometimes I really HATE this game hehe. Still never quite sure if I'm going to get a Perfect or Fast at the top, and that led to another inconsistent round. Found water on #17 and was generally unhappy with my play.

Round 2 Good start but as usual on these 187 greens i give them too much respect and putt terrible, avoided a 3 putt until the 13th where i thought my approach was good it nearly stopped but ran on and on. Found a watery grave on 18 to finish with a snot.  |

Round 2 - Had been playing terribly but just thought 'what the hell, let's just get this round out of the way'. A 3-putt bogey from 10 feet on the 1st seemed to confirm my fears that this would be a disastrous round, but I got the shot back on the 2nd. That bogey appeared to galvanise my concentration. Amazingly I birdied the par 5 4th, after finding water off the tee, when I sank a 44-footer. Tried to be too cute on the short 11th and paid the price when I again found water, but got it right on the next par 3, the 15th, putting my tee to 3 feet for a tap-in bird. Holed a 17-footer for bird on #16, but the nasty pin on #18 had the last laugh. All in all quite happy though...

Lost all the momentum on the front. Made a valiant attempt but couldn't hold on.

Back from my travels and played R1 and R2. Managed the course really well except for holes 13 and 18 in R2. Hit balls in the water on both holes with fast swings. Took a drop on 13 on the bank next to point of entering water instead of reteeing; a mistake. Made a perfect swing with a full PW and the ball went straight up and landed in water behind me; took another drop, switched to a pitch instead of a full shot and barely managed to make it to the top of the bank. Hit a decent tee shot on 18, but left under the trees. Hit a perfect low hybrid only to get 70 yards or so out of it - hit low limbs I guess - and landed in the water. Got a better drop this time, and hit the green on my next shot...but unfortunately behind and above the pin; no way to get close to the pin on the next putt; then it was back and forth a few times because the green rolls straight despite moving arrows around the hole; not sure what is going on with that. So, despite a bad score in R2, almost all the extra strokes came from those two holes. Onward.   |

R3. This is so frustrating. Hitting good shots and missing easy putts, but at least still managing the round pretty well. Come to 18, play a draw off the tee to handle the cross wind just like the previous two holes but this time it draws big time into the water; take a drop in the weeds, can't see squat, hit a decent wedge but a bit long, dribbles into water behind the green; another disaster hole. It's got to get better. I think I could have played 18 better with my IRL golf game.  |

R4 - Finally! Made par at 18....but only after hitting my second in the water, then hitting a 71-yard pitch to 3 feet for a kick-in par.  |

Round 3 - I must have accidentally picked up someone else's putter because I had a really good day on the greens! Saved par on #1 with a 17-footer, and birdied #2 with a 28-footer. Had several near misses for more birds but at least played the par 5's well. The back nine didn't start and end well, but in between I grabbed more birds and am more than happy with the way things went. Still in contention going into the final round...

I couldn't get going this round. 4 or 5 water balls didn't help. Not a good bounce on any shots.
