What are the rules as far as chipping on the greens or are there none? I can not even see a 80 foot putt not alone to think I could even make it drop.
Thanks for the help.

Well its kind of two fold - if there is fringe in your way you have no choice - and we have always kind of said after 100 feet - personally I never do - i have made some 100 foot putts, and of course with our settings and some of the green colors it is hard to see the hole - so just put the pin in and find your bearings. I have played in lots of other societies and play with most ghost just because I hate to play alone and a lot of the guys chip on greens which I find offensive, but that's me - I suspect most of them are gamers and not golfers so consider the source.

There are differing opinions about chipping, or flopping, on greens. However, in this society it is discouraged. The general rule is as follows:
If there is an obstacle between you and the cup, whether it be water, sand, rough, or even fringe, then chipping or flopping is acceptable.
If you have, say, an 80-foot putt which is 2 feet downhill: 80 minus 24 (inches) = 56. As less than 100, you would be expected to PUTT.
If you have an 80-foot putt which is 2 feet UPHILL: 80 plus 24 (inches) = 104. As OVER 100, you would have the option of chipping or flopping.
This unwritten rule is almost impossible to enforce, but members are entrusted to do the right thing and adhere to these guidelines.
