ROUND 4 - IAN McKINLEY IS THE 1970 OPEN CHAMPION!! As in the first two rounds, he produced the best score of the final day, a fine 66, to confirm his superiority over the rest of the field and win the Claret Jug by an emphatic 10 strokes!! Roger Instell's disappointing level par 72 today was enough to clinch sole possession of 2nd place, while Mark Lipping's 70 helped him to claim 3rd spot. Bob Fletcher came in with a 68 when at one stage it looked as if his score was going to be a lot lower, but he eventually succumbed to the conditions to finish 4th. Hans Kunok signed off with his worst round of the event, a 73, but still ended the tourney in 5th. In 6th spot was Charlie Roberts after repeating his third round score of 69. Randy Grant began the week well but, although the wheels fell off in his second round, today's 75 lifted him away from the foot of the leaderboard to earn a share of 53rd. Two rookies making their PLAYPGATOUR debuts performed well - Olly Jose-Maria started and finished shakily but concluded his first tournament in 8th place, while Barney Buss edged ahead of Olly by a single stroke to finish in 7th.
