Round 1 - Looks like the players had it relatively easy in Houston last week compared to Colonial this week. Colonial is a much tighter course with more difficult greens, both of which more than compensate for its' lack of length. Last week's victor, Ian McKinley, scrambled home with a 74 under his belt, a score only good enough to share 71st place. Randy Grant fought gamely in his round but a 77 was all he had to show for his efforts. Bob Fletcher played quite well and was rewarded with a level par 70, leaving him tied for 28th and four strokes off the lead. It's going to be a tough week...

Round 2 - a measure of how tough Colonial is playing this week is how far down the leaderboard you have to scan to find the 'guest' players! After a nightmare 85 in his opening round, Mark Lipping recovered his composure to card a level par 70 today, but remains in last place. Randy Grant also improved on his first round, carding a 75, which puts him three strokes ahead of Mark. Bob Fletcher also shot a 75, a score he was disappointed with after a solid opening round of 70. The leading 'guest' player at the moment is Ian McKinley whose 70 places him a shot ahead of Bob, and although that only leaves him in a tie for 44th, he is a recoverable 8 strokes adrift of the leader.

Round 4 - Once again the guest players came away empty-handed. Colonial certainly bared its' teeth as only 6 of the PGA Tour pros broke par over the four rounds. The winner was HOMERO BLANCAS, his first tour victory since winning the 1966 Seattle-Everett Open.

Blancas put it all together to edge out Lee Trevino and Gene Littler by a single shot. Happily, for Romero, a tip from Trevino helped immeasurably. "I told Homero he should move through the ball faster from the waist down," said Trevino. Blancas did and reported thet the tip helped him hit a slight fade instead of a hook. Said Trevino "I'm proud of Homero, but my little lesson cost me about $12,000!"

Randy Grant, 84 today (score not age!), and Mark Lipping with a 79, both had weeks they will want to forget in a hurry. Ian McKinley's 76 left him in a tie for 44th place, which meant that the 'best of the guests' was Bob Fletcher who concluded the event with a 74 to finish in a share of 34th spot.
